Leading change in the age of AI is a facilitated workshop for managers on leading teams through AI change: conversations about changing jobs and skills, worries and resistance, and everyday experiments. It may be delivered as a module in your manager development program. Think Big Leaders runs it in Stockholm, elsewhere in Sweden, in Copenhagen, Helsinki and Oslo, elsewhere in the EU, or online.

In English, or in Swedish if you tell us when you book. Outside Sweden, in English.

Why managers

Managers are where an AI transformation succeeds or stalls. They feel the pressure from both sides: the board and leadership want results, customers and competitors set the pace, and employees ask them what AI means for their jobs. Managers also decide whether the team gets time to try new ways of working. Most of them have had tool training. Few have had help leading the change.

It starts with where you are

Every program starts with the people in it. Before the day, we talk with the program owners and a few managers, and participants answer a short pre-work question about their hopes and concerns. The day opens with what they wrote.

Who it is for

Middle managers and team leads, including managers of managers, usually as a cohort from one or more parts of the company. Senior leaders can take part at the tables, as participants rather than observers.

What managers leave with

  • A way to explain to their team what is changing, what isn't, and why
  • One real challenge in their own team, diagnosed: does it need a tool, or new ways of working?
  • One change they will make in how their team works with AI
  • One personal experiment for the next month, with a colleague to check in with
  • Peers from other parts of the business to compare notes with
  • Job aids and frameworks, with examples adapted to your industry, your context and your company

An example day

Every program is designed with you. This is how a recent day for about 30 managers ran.

  1. 1Reflection on the pre-work: hopes and concerns a year from now
  2. 2Short talk on three paths to value with AI: Boosting productivity, Creating new value and Driving disruption
  3. 3Exercises at mixed tables, working with AI use cases
  4. 4Short talk: technical and adaptive challenges
  5. 5Each manager diagnoses one real challenge, then pairs up to test it
  6. 6Lunch
  7. 7Each manager designs one change for their team
  8. 8One personal experiment each, with a buddy to check in with

For larger programs

For a program with several cohorts, we can train your internal facilitators to run tables alongside us, and build a companion AI app for the program that managers keep using afterwards.

From one team's AI win to many

We borrow an idea from Rob Snyder, author of The Power of Pull, who describes a growing company as "a factory that produces nearly-identical case studies". Inside a company, the case is one team that took up AI because it unblocked real work. Managers repeat it: they find teams with a blocked task, help them adopt, and stay until the new way of working sticks.

When this may not be the right fit

  • You want individual places on an open course rather than a cohort from your company. If you are a CEO or another C-level leader who wants to start on your own, see Executive AI advisory.
  • You need someone to choose or build AI tools for you

Questions

Is this an AI course for managers?

It's a workshop on leading change, not a tool course. Managers work with AI during the day, but the focus is on leading their teams through what it changes.

Can it be part of our existing manager program?

Yes. We design it with your HR or L&D team so it fits the program's themes and timing.

Should the leadership team go first?

It helps, but it's not required. Managers can lead the change with more confidence when they know what the leadership team has agreed. Leading the AI transformation is the workshop for that.
